SITE: Newcomen Street, Newcastle
BRIEF
To reinstate the original pool and design a Thermae that can be used and accessed by the public. Inspired by the original Newcastle baths that are found along the Newcastle coastline and beaches.
INDIVIDUAL STATEMENT
This Thermae has been designed as an outdoor pool with a 'floating' green roof with cascading greenery. This makes the most of the natural light and ventilation. Solar panels would be placed throughout the green roof to ensure the Thermae runs sustainably. The Thermae is accessed on Hunter Street as the Newcomen Street end houses the necessary female, male and universal amenities. Moving throughout the Thermae is easily accessible by all as ramps are used instead of stairs.
